Into the wild
Kashalilamba is a quiet and peaceful place, as remote from civilization as it gets. The woods are packed with berries and mushrooms, there is a game ranch situated nearby. On the outskirts of the Kashalilamba village there is a tourist attraction worth visiting – the Chapel of Holy Mother of Kazan, an old authentic Karelian building. Sightseeing in this area is available throughout the year.
For those who are interested in outdoor tourism Karelia is the best choice among other Russian regions. Open space around our guesthouses allows you to do sports, play games or cook on grill. Forest trails are available at your doorstep, some of those are suitable for bicycles as well, and don’t forget that there is a lake nearby – and that is a whole new range of opportunities! Boat trips, fishing, jetski, swimming in summer and riding a snowmobile in winter – all at your service. There is suitable leisure for families, friends, big groups or individual travellers.
Russian “banya” (bath)
Russian bath, or “banya”, is an ancient Russian pastime, still very popular among Russians. It involves “sweating” in a steam room and being hit with birch twigs, then cooling yourself down in a lake or in the snow. Though it sounds extreme, when done properly “banya” is an unforgettable experience, both healthy and pleasant. “Banya” is also a word for a building where the procedure is done. We offer our guests authentic wooden banyas built in accordance to Russian traditions.
Fishing is available in Russia throughout the year, lakes and rivers of Karelia are full of different kinds of fish. You can come with your own fishrods and gear, or you can rent equipment with us. You can ask for a fishing guide as well – he will come with you on your fishing trip and give you valuable tips or teach you how to fish if necessary. Fishing can be a relaxing experience if you do it alone, or can become a interesting and fascinating pastime if you go with your friends.
